About STEPS Psychology

Teresa and Martina first met during their doctoral training in Educational and Child Psychology at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust. From the outset, they shared a strong commitment to systemic, child-centred and relational ways of working. Although their professional journeys led them to work in different regions of the UK and internationally, their shared values and collaborative approach continued to strengthen their professional relationship over time.

Together, Teresa and Martina bring a rich and complementary range of experience. Their combined expertise spans narrative therapy, autism assessment, neurodiversity-affirming practice, early years development, family support and systemic approaches within educational and community settings. Each brings distinct strengths, allowing them to work thoughtfully and creatively across complex systems while keeping children and young people at the heart of their work.

The decision to found STEPS Psychology grew from a shared desire to make high-quality, evidence-based and accredited training more accessible to a wider audience. Having co-delivered training for many years, they recognised the impact of their collaborative style and the value of offering courses that are both theoretically robust and deeply grounded in real-world practice.

Between them, Teresa and Martina have over two decades of experience supporting children, families and schools. This includes extensive involvement in the delivery and coordination of Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) training, working closely with Local Authorities, school leaders and practitioners. They are passionate about building capacity within systems, supporting reflective practice, and empowering professionals to create meaningful and sustainable change.

Through STEPS Psychology, Teresa and Martina are excited to continue developing and delivering training, consultation and support that reflects their shared values of compassion, collaboration and social responsibility.
